By nigelleggatt,
Long-overdue covers album from Dando and Co - just skip over track 7.
Evan Dando has always been a great interpreter of other people's songs - Luka, Brass Buttons, Mrs Robinson etc, so it was only a matter of time before he released a full album of them.
It's an interesting set of songs from artists ranging from the obvious, Parsons and Cohen, through to the willfully obscure, GG Alin's Layin' Up With Linda - which he turns in to a fabulous Cave-esque murder ballad.
Dirty Robot - a horrible, embarrassing slab of electro-pop - spoils the overalll feel of the album and loses a star!
Redemption arrives with the two closing tracks, Hey That's No Way To Say Goodbye, with Liv Tyler and his fabulous interpretation of Linda Perry's Beatiful.

By P. Murphy,
A grower
Good album of well-chosen covers ... didn't really think much of it at first but it is a grower and has a fine selection of songs. Has been on my turntable a lot. All good apart from a turgid cover of 'Beautiful'. Favourite tracks 'I Just Can't Take It Anymore' and 'Layin Up With Linda'. It is no 'Its a Shame About Ray' though.

Poor
I'm a long-time fan of the Lemonheads but felt insulted by this lacklustre collection. There's nothing here that tops the originals, or even comes close. In addition, despite all the hype about Gibby Haynes' production, it sounds like it was recorded in a vat of mud. Avoid.

Awesome Album-*****
Great album by an even greater band!
This is a great album weather you are a die hard lemonheads fan and have been following them for 20 years or are new to their stuff and want a good example of the kind of band they are!
This is a great covers album, and with names like Kate Moss popping up on tracks it definately deserves a listen!
Would def recommend the single taken from this album, 'I Just Can't Take It Anymore', a cover of the original by Gram Parsons, its an awesome song, a completely new take on a timeless original!

Come on feel Varshons!
If you've read some of the build up about Varshons then you'll already know it was a labour of love for Evan, with the main inspiration for it coming from the mix tapes Gibby Haynes (The Producer and Butthole Surfers man) has made for him. Having that thought in your mind you will not be disappointed by this record. It may not be "Its a shame about Ray" but i'm pretty confident its not supposed to be. I love it and have not stopped playing it since i got it.
