We were at this gig!
Bought it purely because my husband and I went to this gig way back when so I bought it as a prezzie for him. He loves it, a must for die-hard Nirvana fans.

For The True Fan Only
Nirvana's legendary gig at the Reading Festival in 1991 blew the musical establishment apart.
Alas, this recording is from 1992 & lacks historical impact.
The sound is also messy. Bass & drums are fine but the guitar is often an over-distorted hiss. I thought of Cobain as a guirtar-soundworld obsessive but here the sound is all too samey. His voice sounds tired very soon & many songs he just battles to get through them.
Inter-song banter & audience interaction are unsurprisingly minimal so this is an album for the hardcore Nirvana fan or keen students of Grohl's drumming (which is exemplary).
If you are unfamiliar with their work then I'd recommend "Nevermind" which not only sounds better but is about a third of the length of this (size isn't always everything and I found 24 tracks rather tiring).
The DVD may be more interesting but I won't be rushing to find out.

SWEAT, SPEED, MUD & SCABBIES
Awesome to hear this, raw power and memories. it had been another fuzzy festival and who ever thought they were not going to see them again?, they fXXking kicked a hole in the head of anyone watching and then left, on top of the world. It had been a very wet and mud slinging day, a youth mis-spent and worth it all. Four words that spring to mind about this recording are Sweat, Speed, Mud and Scabbies!!!
