By Honest opinions only,

An ecclectic mix by a versatile artist
I wasn't convinced i'd like this album after hearing the very commercial Chasing Pavements but I was pleasantly surprised by the rest of the tracks. Adele is a genuinely versatile artist slipping effortlessly between songs you might attribute to Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen or Beyonce Knowles if you didn't know any better. She has a very smooth tone and a mature writing style which makes this a joy to listen to from start to finish. Worst Track: the rather safe version Chasing Pavements lacks the soul of other tracks. Best Track: Tired, perfect in every way. Overall well worth the money.

Great Voice but patchy material
There is no doubting that this girl has a great soaring voice and has joined the growing ranks of "finds" in the charts. And on tracks such as "Hometown Glory" and "Daydreamer", she shines. Beautiful soulful songs that make you reach for the replay button. But you get the impression that some shady character is wanting their cut a little soon. There just isn't enough quality music for a whole album. Some tracks are clumsily put together and do nothing for Adele's undeniable talent.

She has shown her class with great performances on TV shows like Later and at such a tender age she could be a real star for the future. But this album does less for her charms and musical style than it does to line record executives pockets. Download "Pavements", "Hometown" & "Daydreamer" but save the rest of your money for her "difficult second album".

A promise of better things to come
This is the debut album from Adele Laurie Blue Adkins who was, I assume, 19 years old when she completed it as she was born in May 1988 and the album came out in 2007. Credit must be given, then, to a young lady who not only sings well - most of the time - but who actually wrote most of the 12 songs here. My favourite one however was composed by Bob Dylan ('Make you feel my love') which stands out from all the others in terms of its lyrics and poetic balance.

It's an album that needs to be played several times to appreciate it. First time round I was rather disappointed; I bought it on the back of only hearing 'Chasing Pavements', which I think was also released as a single, but on first play I gained the impression that this was the only song I liked. Fortunately after a few more plays I changed my view on that, in fact I now prefer several other songs to the one she is best known for. One example is the more up-beat 'Right as Rain' which is pretty good.

Adele wrote seven of the songs on her own (or at least she is the only credited writer for seven), and of the remaining five she played a key role on four of them. The only 'cover' therefore is the aforementioned song by Bob Dylan but it does come over as the most musical song, the best produced and the most complete. In other words, the mastery of Dylan shines through and demonstrates that while Adele has talent and promise, she has someway to go before she's the finished article.

On occasions she seems (to me) to sing in a way that is removed from her natural accent; I noticed this on the opening track 'Daydreamer' in which she has a few Lily Allen-esque moments that I felt don't really suit her overall style. It's the sort of thing that she herself will probably cringe about when she hears it in years to come, but let's be fair, she's a teenage singer-songwriter and she should be admired for what she's achieved at such a young age. She shows signs of class, and I'm sure she'll improve with age and experience.

Now that I have played the album several times, I like it more than I did on first audition, but it still doesn't blow me away. Quite good, and by no means a classic, but showing positive signs for her future.

Brilliant voice, but the songs are very poor and depressing
My girlfriend loved the track "Chasing Pavements" and I have to agree that is a decent song. She purchased the album and we got as far as track 6, before even she'd had enough and decided to change the CD (if it was down to me, it would have gone off after track 2!). I have no idea whether it got any better after track 6, but normally most albums have their stronger songs near the beginning, so I can only assume it didn't. "Chasing Pavements" was good, the track after that, "Cold Shoulder" was okay, but the rest of what I heard just made me feel uneasy and wanting to slit my wrists. Adele undoubtably has a good voice, but sadly the songs do not do it justice unfortunately. She needs to do some more uplifting material, rather than just an album full of depressing stuff.

Three great songs - but thats it.
Hometown Glory, Tired and Chasing Pavements are great songs.

The rest are just fillers really.

Adeles voice irritates me on some songs. Just sing the note without all the faff Whitney Houston-esque rubbish. Sounds like she's trying too hard and doesn't need to.

Another one of those CDs that will just gather dust on the CD rack i'm afraid.

Expected better but thats what you get for believing the hype!
